Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of job stress and self-care on play therapist¡¯s burn-out and to examine the independent influence of self-care on the play therapist¡¯s burn-out, controlling for the effects of job stress. The subjects of this study were 231 play therapists. The collected data were analyzed by means of both simple- and hierarchical regression analysis. The results revealed that when the play therapists had lower levels of job stress and a higher level of self-care(personal self-care and professional self-care), the degree of burn-out was found to be lower. Specifically, the play therapist¡¯s personal and professional self-care had an independent influence on burn-out controlling for the job stress. These results suggest that play therapists¡¯ self-care levels(both personal and professional) can be a protective factor for their burn-out level as a risk factor. Therefore, the improvement of play therapist¡¯s self-care as well as their working environment may be help to prevent a play therapist from burning out.
